Running - keen to start or improve?
Feel like Running?
Senior Exercise Physiologist William Maziotis is passionate about helping people run safely, effectively and with confidence. Whether your goal is to start running, return to running, complete your first 5km, or improve your fitness while enjoying WA's outdoors, William can assist you with a structured and individualised plan to achieve your goal and he can test and improve your submax score.
What is Submaximal VO2 Testing? A Smarter way to Start
A Submax VO2 test provides a personalised baseline of your current aerobic fitness, giving us a clear starting point before you begin or return to running.
• Rather than guessing where to start, we can use objective data to set the right training intensity, track your progress and adjust your program as your fitness improves.
It's a smarter way to start running - and a point of difference you won't find in a standard running program.
Submax VO2 testing is available at The Exercise Therapist.
William’s running journey
William grew up in Victoria playing football and barracking for Hawthorn. When he was about 20 running cemented as his way of staying active, managing stress and challenging himself mentally and physically. William uses the Submax VO2 test to objectively track his improvements.
Starting Strong
If you're new to running, William says building a solid foundation of strength is also important before progressing into longer or higher-volume runs. "We can work through structured 4-, 8- or 12-week blocks, depending on your goals and starting point. This focus on strength includes specific exercises targeting the hips, knees and core to help build the capacity needed for running," says William.
Intervals and Workloads
~ You don't need to start by running long distances.
"We can begin with bite-sized running intervals and customised workloads that are appropriate for your current fitness and experience. The goal is to start at a manageable level, build consistency and gradually increase your workload as your body adapts."
